SPRINT CAR DIVISION RULES & FORMAT: (for RaceSaver® Sprint rules, scroll beyond the SPRINT
CAR rules)
1. Cars (from top to bottom, in and out) must be fully ASCS legal. Cars will be teched nightly by ASCS,
so be prepared. Mufflers not required.
2. Drivers must also have proper safety equipment installed on the car and on the driver themselves.
2A. We will be renting transponders for the weekend. All cars in both classes must run them. This will
ensure all teams being scored correctly. You will need to rent them from us for $20/car, and that will
cover all three days of racing. It will also help us to quickly line up the races and keep the show
moving. There is no draw fee on any night (which would normally be $20).
2B. All drivers must have working RACECeivers in their helmets. The track will have some for sale as
well, in case you don't have one. But they keep the show moving along, and we require them.
3. You do not have to run both Thursday and Friday night. You can run one or both, it is your option.
You will not be penalized if you race both qualifying nights. Your top point night will be used to
determine your Saturday starting position.
4. If you do not run Thursday or Friday: and you show up Saturday night to race, you must pay the race
week entry fee of $250 and tag the last feature race, which will presumably be the C feature. If you do
not transfer out of the C feature you do not receive tow money. If you transfer out of the C feature, you
will receive 100% of the posted purse shown on the event flyer.
4A. We fully plan on reworking the track before the SPRINT DIVISION A-feature all three nights, and we
will run the 305 Sprint feature after the Sprint Division feature. If the track does not need to be
reworked, then we will continue with the program without reworking it.
THURSDAY NIGHT QUALIFYING FORMAT:
5. Upon your arrival, find Sam or the pit steward to locate your parking spot. Sam will start parking cars
on Thursday upon your arrival. Teams will be allowed into the pit area before the pits officially open at
3pm. NO BIG HAULERS OR TRAILERS IN THE INFIELD! We prefer open trailers only in the infield.
6. Pits officially open at 3pm on Thu/Fri. ALL people in the pit area MUST have an armband from the pit
shack that night. Anyone caught in your pit area without one, will be asked to leave and your team is
subject to disqualification.
7. Draw for position at 3pm. Pit meeting at 5:30pm. The draw closes at 5:30pm. There will be 100
numbers in the draw on Thursday night. They will determine your heat line-up. Thursday is the only
night we plan to hot lap fully. We reserve the right to open the pits earlier on Thursday.
8. Heats will be 10 laps and the top 16 in points will go directly to the A-feature, straight up from heat
race points. The balance of the field will be split into 2-B features with the top 4 in each tagging the top
16 in heat race points. If there are over 60 cars, there may be a C-feature; at which point, the next 36 in
points will go to the two B-features, and the balance of the field to the C. 8 cars total from the C will
transfer to the B's.
8A. ALL RACES WILL BE STARTED BY A WHITE CHALK LINE IN CORNER 4. THE FRONT ROW MUST
BOTH HIT THE WHITE CHALK LINE AT THE SAME TIME & KEEP A STEADY PACE THROUGH
CORNERS 3 & 4 AS WE WILL NOT TOLERATE DRIVERS THAT SPEED UP/SLOW DOWN, AS THAT
CAUSES UNNECESSARY CRASHES AND DELAYS. YOU ARE SUBJECT TO BEING SENT TO THE
BACK IF YOU DO NOT ADHERE TO THIS RULE! You must also be side-by-side, nose to tail on starts,
no 'fanning out.' All restarts will be single-file, nose-to-tail, no passing until you get to cone.
8B. Restarts will be with the cone and lapped cars to the back. No passing before getting to the cone.
8C. Work area. There is a chalk line in the infield just inside corner 4. If your car requires assistance,
your car must be worked on beyond that chalk line or you are subject to being put a lap down.
9. The A-feature will be 30 laps, 24 cars. The top 4 finishers will lock into the first 4 rows of the
Saturday night championship A-feature race. The top 4 finishers will not have any points, as they are
locked into the top 4 rows Saturday night.
10. The balance of the field (ALL remaining drivers) will have their heat points and A, B or C points
added to their heat points to determine their total points. (You only receive points for the feature race
you finish highest in. So if you are in the B and transfer to the A, you only receive A feature points.)
10A. If you choose to race both Thu/Fri night, after Friday night's race your low point night between the
two will be thrown out to establish your point total going into Saturday night. If you choose to race
Thursday or Friday (and not both), that race night will be your point total going into Saturday night.
There is no 'penalty' for racing both nights.
11. The top 6 in overall points after Thursday OR Friday will also lock into the Saturday A feature, and
will start in positions 9-14. Points will be compiled by Bill Wright (Knoxville) using the Knoxville 360
Nationals points system (except for the time trials portion as we are not running time trials).
12. In other words, after Thursday night you can choose to come back and race on Friday and your
better points night between the two will be your official points night going into Saturday night.
13. If there is an OPEN RED in the A-feature (only time an open red will be displayed), then you will
have TWO MINUTES to fuel up the car and make minor adjustments. If you remove a tire from the car,
you will restart at the tail. If you're not ready to push off when asked, you will restart at the tail. Track
officials will determine if you are late for the call - so be ready!
FRIDAY NIGHT QUALIFYING FORMAT:
13. Pits officially open at 3pm with the draw at 3pm. Draw closes at 5:15pm & Pit meeting at 5:30pm.
(Same as Thursday)
14. If you raced on Thursday night, when you come up to the draw table, we will know the number you
drew on Thursday night. If you drew 50 or less Thursday, then you will draw from the container with
numbers 51-100 in it. If you drew 51 or higher on Thursday, then you will draw from the container with
numbers 1-50 in it.
15. If you did not qualify on Thursday night, you will only be allowed to draw at exactly 5:15pm; as we
will then combine the numbers not yet drawn of the 1-50 container to the 51-100 container, and you will
draw from those remaining numbers. The 'Friday only draw' ends at 5:30pm.
16. The draw will determine the heat line ups. We do not plan to hot lap any cars other than those that
did not race on Thursday night.
17A. ALL RACES WILL BE STARTED BY A WHITE CHALK LINE IN CORNER 4. THE FRONT ROW MUST
BOTH HIT THE WHITE CHALK LINE AT THE SAME TIME - KEEP A STEADY PACE THROUGH
CORNERS 3 & 4 AS WE WILL NOT TOLERATE DRIVERS THAT SPEED UP/SLOW DOWN, AS THAT
CAUSES UNNECESSARY CRASHES AND DELAYS. YOU ARE SUBJECT TO BEING SENT TO THE
BACK IF YOU DO NOT ADHERE TO THIS RULE!
18. The A-feature will be 30 laps, 24 cars. The top 4 finishers will lock into the first 4 rows of the
Saturday night championship A-feature race.
19. The balance of the field (ALL remaining drivers) will have their heat points and A, B or C points
added to their heat points to determine their total points.
20. The top 6 in overall points after Thursday OR Friday will also lock into the Saturday A feature, and
will start in positions 9-14.
SATURDAY CHAMPIONSHIP NIGHT FOR THE SPRINT CAR DIVISION:
21. At this point, the top 4 A-finishers from Thursday and Friday are locked into the A-feature (8 cars
total). And the top 6 point getters from Thursday OR Friday will follow those locked in cars (for a total
of 14 cars.)
21A. Fan Fest will be held from 3pm-4:45pm in the pit area. Gates open at 5pm. Racing at 7pm. Very
limited hot laps on Saturday night. We will go right into feature racing. The first feature out may or may
not receive a set of hot laps based on if the track is ready to race on. You will basically get about a lap
to shake down your cars before lining up for the start of each feature race.
22. The next 36 cars in points will be split into two B-features. The balance of the field will go to the C
feature(s). A total of 8 cars from the C will go to the B-features, which will each start 22 cars.
23. The top 4 finishers in each B will line straight up behind the 14 qualified cars for the A-feature.
(which makes 22 cars.)
24. We will then have a fan in the stands draw 2 non-qualifying drivers names from EVERY driver that
PRE-ENTERED this event on or before October 8th. Those two winning drivers will start 23rd and 24th
and will be racing for the fully advertised purse. Drivers that enter this event after October 8th are not
eligible for the drawing.
25. We will then hold an auction from ALL remaining sprint division drivers for a 25th starting spot in
the feature. The auction will start at $1,200 in cash and the winning bidder must pay in cash unless
prior arrangements are made with Sam Hafertepe.
26. The track will then add the first $1,200 bid in the auction and that will pay $1,200 for the driver who
finishes 25th in the A-feature.
27. ALL money collected from the auction in excess of the $1,200 starting money will be evenly divided
between the non-qualifying B-feature drivers.
28. For example purposes, lets say the bidding goes up to $3,000. The track will take the first $1,200 to
pay for the 25th finishing spot in the feature, which will leave $1,800. If there are 36 B-feature
non-qualifiers, they will receive an even split of this amount; or $1,800/36 = $50 additional each.
29. The top 8 locked in drivers from Thursday and Friday will be brought to the flag stand while the
track is being reworked prior to the Sprint Division A-feature.
30. At that time, eight 50/50 ticket numbers will be drawn and those winning fans will each receive $50
and will come down and pick a plain marked, sealed envelope from a total of 8 envelopes available to
them.
31. Each fan will then hand their sealed envelope to the driver of their choice. The driver will then open
the envelope they receive and that will be their starting position in the Championship feature. So it is
totally random what number a fan will give to the driver...but it will get them interactively involved with
the drivers, which is the whole point of the promotion.
32. The Saturday night Sprint Car division A-feature will be 40 green flag laps. Depending on the
amount of cautions (or lack thereof), will determine if there will be a red flag for a fuel stop or not.
There is no fuel stop planned for this event. So if there happens to be an open red flag, it is your
responsibility to add fuel at that time. (In 2011, there was only one yellow, so fuel was not an issue.)
WE HOPE YOU ENJOY ALL OF THE WAYS YOU CAN GET QUALIFIED FOR THIS EVENT - and we wish
each and every one of you the best of luck!
