COMPETITION ENHANCEMENTS AND A DAREDEVIL'S 'TWIST' IN LINE FOR
PORT-A-COOL® U.S. NATIONAL DIRT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP AT TEXAS MOTOR
SPEEDWAY
FORT WORTH, Texas (Sep. 12, 2013) - The Port-A-Cool® U.S. National Dirt Track
Championship set for Sept. 20-21 at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track will have
several new elements to further enhance the fan experience and competition.
Stuntman Spanky Spangler Jr., currently being featured on the HISTORY Channel
show, "American Daredevil," will be filming one of the episodes next Saturday
night prior to the championship races as he will entertain the fans with a barrel roll
car stunt. The on-track action also will get a boost with three-wide feature starts
and the institution of a popular restart procedure.
The weekend features the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series along with
Modified and Limited Modified racing, with the latter two divisions making the
competition tweaks at the .4 oval. For the first time in the dirt track's 14-year history,
the Modified and Limited Modified divisions will utilize a three-wide start for their
championship feature events. Nine rows three wide should ramp up the action and
drama as soon as the green flag drops.
Both divisions also will move to the popular "Delaware" style for restarts. In this
format, each race will be restarted at the chalk line in Turn 4 and the leader will be
out front while the other competitors will start behind in a side-by-side, double-file
field.
Spangler Jr. made his Texas Motor Speedway debut in June prior to the Firestone
550 IZOD IndyCar Series race. In that stunt that also was featured in "American
Daredevil," he launched himself off a ramp in a car and crashed directly into a
pyramid of junker cars set up along the frontstretch.
This stunt will have a new "twist" as Spangler Jr. will come flying through the
track's infield tunnel in his car; hit a ramp that will send his car into a barrel roll and
then land on a bed of junkers below with a pyro show to boot.
Gates open for the Port-A-Cool® U.S. National Dirt Track Championship at 4 p.m.
CT both days. On Friday, Sept. 20, on-track action begins at 5 p.m. for practice with
opening ceremonies set for 6 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 21, opening ceremonies are
slated for 6:15 p.m.
Grandstand tickets for Friday's action are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and
