IT'S NOW WEDNESDAY, 11/2/16 and here's the 10AM UPDATES:

Believe it or not, today's forecast for Little Rock is 82 degrees (above zero), there is a front moving through overnight tonight which will drop temps to the
70's through the rest of race weekend - but all days show DRY.

The line of precip showing from areas like Tulsa down to Dallas is not supposed to make it this far east. So we're good for the weekend, unless something
unforeseen occurs.

Race teams are really starting to arrive now, in anticipation of tonight's open practice session. Here's a live shot as of 9am Wednesday. There are
currently 65 confirmed, paid teams entered for the STN and all will race all three nights (except the top 3 finishers on Thursday). More race week entries
will be announced when they are filed.
5 or 6 racing lines are available to the drivers going into corners 1-2...
Here's a panoramic of the track - all you have to do is click on the picture and it will blow up in a new window to a much larger viewing size. Every seat at I-30 is a
great one, as there are no obstructions for viewing all the action.

Here are practice night pics from 11/2/16...opening night is Thursday with FULL-FIELD qualifying for the 65+ car STN field!
THURSDAY, NOV. 3 STN RACE DAY UPDATE - AT 5PM: It's going to be a FANtastic night of racing tonight at I-30 Speedway! The pits are filled with sprint cars from

Short Track Nationals Night #1

62 cars

Heat one (started): 1. Shawn Dancer 49 (2) 2. Parker Price-Miller 2 (1) 3. Mark Smith M1 (4) 4. Aaron Reutzel 87 (5) 5. Brandon Hinkle 21B (7) 6. Ronny Howard 44 (3) 7.
Claud Estes III 74E (8) 8. Tommy Snellgrove 4 (6)

Heats were ten laps in distance.  The top 40 in passing points qualified for four Qualifiers with an invert of six spots in each.  Dancer led the distance in a race that saw the
lead trio make a little contact with each other on the way.  The track was as good as we’ve seen it for the Short Track Nationals in some time.  Both ends lent multiple
grooves, with holes in one and three adding some flavor as well.

Heat two (started): 1. Joey Schmidt 1s (1) 2. Rick Pringle 38 (2) 3. Tim Shaffer 49x (3) 4. Johnny Gardner 31G (7) 5. Dylan Westbrook 47x (8) 6. Kevin Hinkle 21 (6) 7.
Dustin Homan 10 (5) 8. Joseph Miller 30 (4)

Schmidt led R. Pringle and J. Gardner (from 7th) at the completion of lap one.  At that point, Miller came to a stop on the frontstretch.  Shaffer used the restart to work by
J. Gardner for the third spot after a slow start.  Homan exited early.

Heat three (started): 1. Sammy Swindell 3s (4) 2. Jeremy Middleton 15J (2) 3. Chad Kemenah 10H (8) 4. Kevin Ramey 91 (7) 5. Brandon Long 2K (6) 6. Robbie
Standridge 17* (5) 7. Jason Keith 10c (1) 8. Tony Bruce Jr. 86 (3)

When Keith slowed with a flat right rear tire in turn four, Bruce couldn’t avoid him and tipped over after a hotly contested start.  Both were done.  Swindell narrowly avoided
the mess and led Middleton and Standridge back to green.  Long jumped the berm and did all but get upside down on lap five, bringing another caution.  Kemenah
completed a good run on the restart, getting by Standridge for third.

Heat four (started): 1. Ernie Ainsworth 91A (4) 2. Jason Johnson 41 (2) 3. Shane Stewart 88s (5) 4. Marshall Skinner 26 (6) 5. Andy McElhannon 42 (8) 6. Jake Bubak 9x
(3) 7. Jonathan Cornell 28 (7) 8. Dakota Gaines D6 (1)

Gaines took a hard right into J. Johnson on the frontstretch when the green fell.  Both avoided further disaster, but Ainsworth sniped the lead ahead of J. Johnson, who
recovered nicely, and Bubak.  Stewart worked by Bubak on lap five for third.  Skinner and McElhannon bested Bubak in some intense action in the late stages.

Howard MooreHoward Moore
Heat five (started): 1. Tim Crawley 88 (7) 2. Zach Pringle 8z (3) 3. Howard Moore 40 (5) 4. Jordon Mallett 14m (8) 5. Dale Wester 12w (2) 6. CJ Hulsey 77c (1) 7. Coleman
Gulick 14 (6) 8. Cody Gardner 88R (4)

In probably the most interesting heat of the night, contact from Wester sent Hulsey into a spin before a lap could be completed.  Z. Pringle inherited the pole, and took the
early lead over Moore and Gulick.  With C. Gardner and Crawley (from 7th) entering the lead trio, a 4-wide entry into turn three saw only three make it to turn four.
Contact from Crawley sent C. Gardner limping to the infield with a broken front end.  Mallett spun on lap three, bringing a caution.  Z. Pringle led Moore, Gulick, Wester
and Crawley back to green.  Gulick looked good on the cushion shooting into second, while Crawley took fourth.  Crawley would then snatch third from Moore on lap five.
A circuit later, Gulick was challenging for the lead on the high side of one when he smacked the wall hard on entry.  He would limp to the pits.  Crawley inherited second
and shot by Z. Pringle for the lead on the restart.

Heat six (started): 1. Max Stambaugh 5m (2) 2. Jamie Ball 5J (1) 3. Derek Hagar 9JR (4) 4. Spencer Bayston 39 (5) 5. Jordan Thomas 79 (3) 6. Forrest Sutherland 85 (6)
7. Terry McCarl 24 (7) 8. Trey Starks 23 (8)

Stambaugh led the distance in a mostly single-file non-stop affair.

Heat seven (started): 1. Andy Shouse 27 (4) 2. Charlie Loudon X (5) 3. Jason Sides 7s (3) 4. Joe B. Miller 51B (6) 5. Bard Bowden 59 (7) 6. Jamey Mooney 69 (1) 7. Jeff
Masson 15* (2)

The front row of Masson and Mooney came together on the start, sending this one into a wincing trip into turn one.  Shouse emerged with the lead ahead of Louden and J.
B. Miller.  Sides brought a fierce battle to Miller for third, eventually prevailing on lap six.

Heat eight (started): 1. Brian Bell 23B (4) 2. Sheldon Haudenschild 31B (1) 3. Harli White 17w (5) 4. Alex Hill 77x (7) 5. Dewayne White 10K (3) 6. Matthew Bauldwin 43 (6)
DQ (nose wing, crossed third) Brandon Stevenson 29 (2)

Haudenschild led Bell and Stevenson most of the way.  On the last lap, Bell pulled a slider on the leader in turn two and made it stick, stealing the win.  Stevenson crossed
third, but was DQed for having his nose wing too far forward after the race.

Brandon LongBrandon Long
Qualifier one (started, *qualified for feature): 1. J. Johnson (1*) 2. Crawley (6*) 3. Reutzel (9*) 4. Smith (7*) 5. Ramey (2) 6. Westbrook (8) 7. Long (10) 8. Stambaugh (4)
9. Bell (5) 10. Stewart (3)

The Qualifiers were 10 laps in distance and took the top 14 in combined passing points from the heat and the Qualifier to the A.  This was probably the most stout of the
four.  Reutzel shot over the berm in turn one when the green flew and came to a stop before a lap was completed.  J. Johnson led Ramey and Bell in the early stages.
Bell overtook Ramey for second on lap three squeezing between him and the turn four wall.  Crawley went into third at the same time on the low side.  Stewart would slow
with six laps in and retire.  J. Johnson led Bell, Crawley, Ramey and Reutzel back to green.  A lap in, Bell caught a rut and flipped in turn four.  J. Johnson kept his lead
over Crawley, who was high point man for the night, while Reutzel completed his run back from the tail in third.

Qualifier two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Price-Miller (1*) 2. Hill (2*) 3. Moore 40 (3) 4. Swindell (6*) 5. Kemenah (5) 6. Bayston (9) 7. Cornell (10) 8. Hagar (7) 9.
Schmidt (4) 10. McElhannon (8)

Price-Miller led Hill and Schmidt on lap one.  Schmidt spun in turn three while running second and collected a fourth running McElhannon.  Both were done.  Price-Miller
continued to pull away, while Moore inherited third.  Swindell shot by Kemenah late for fourth.

Qualifier three (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Ball (1*) 2. H. White (3*) 3. R. Pringle (2) 4. Ainsworth (6*) 5. Mallett (4) 6. Louden (5) 7. Shaffer (8) 8. Thomas (10) 9.
Skinner (7) 10. B. Hinkle (9)

Ball led the distance.  H. White snatched third from R. Pringle on lap six.  Ainsworth looked strong, working by Mallett and Louden and coming just short at the line of R.
Pringle for third.

Qualifier four (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Haudenschild (1*) 2. Z. Pringle (4*) 3. Middleton (2) 4. Sides (8*) 5. Shouse (6*) 6. J.B. Miller (7) 7. Dancer (5) 8. J.
Gardner (3) 9. D. White (10) 10. Bowden (9)

Haudenschild led green to checker.  Z. Pringle worked by Middleton for second with four to go.  Sides used a good patient start to work under Dancer and J. Gardner in
turn four on lap one.

C main one (started): 1. Sutherland (2) 2. Standridge (3) 3. Bubak (7) / 4. Bruce (10) 5. Wester (1) 6. Howard (4) 7. J. Miller (8) 8. Masson (6) 9. Hulsey (5) 10. Keith (9)
DNS – Gulick

The C mains were comprised of cars not making the Qualifiers.  The 10-lappers took the top three to the back of the B mains.  Sutherland led early over Wester and
Standridge.  On lap seven, Standridge surged by Wester for second.  Things went smoothly until Hulsey flipped in turn one on the white flag lap.  He was o.k.  Sutherland
maintained his lead on the restart, but Bubak used it to work by Wester to complete a good run for the final transfer after starting in row four.

C main two (started): 1. McCarl (4) 2. Bauldwin (2) 3. C. Gardner (10) / 4. Starks (7) 5. Estes (3) 6. Homan (6) 7. Stevenson (8) 8. K. Hinkle (1) 9. Mooney (5) 10. Gaines
(9) DNS – Snellgrove

Bauldwin led McCarl and Homan early.  Estes dispatched Homan for third on the lap two.  McCarl, who got stronger as the night went on, worked over Bauldwin for the
lead on lap six.  Starks would get to the final transfer when he shot by Estes on lap seven.  C. Gardner, who started last, was up to challenge Starks on lap nine.  He
rubbed Starks in turn four to take the final transfer spot.  Starks showed his displeasure with the move after the checkers.

B main one (started): 1. Bayston (4) 2. Kemenah (1) 3. Shaffer (8) / 4. Louden (3) 5. J.B. Miller (6) 6. Skinner (11) 7. Hagar (9) 8. R. Pringle (2) 9. Ramey (5) 10.
Sutherland (14) 11. Long (7) 12. Standridge (15) 13. B. Hinkle (13) 14. Bubak (16) 15. Schmidt (10) 16. McElhannon (12)

12-lap B mains would transfer the top three to the back of the feature.  Schmidt would get sideways and over the turn two ledge.  McElhannon corrected to avoid him and
flipped.  His second encounter of the night with Schmidt resulted in a brief meeting.  Kemenah would grab the early lead over Louden and Bayston.  Bayston, driving for
Kevin Swindell, hit the cushion to take second from Loudon on lap two.  He stalked Kemenah before shooting around him for the point on lap seven.  Shaffer would run a
strong race from outside row four to pass Louden with three to go for the final transfer, sending a pair of multi-time All Stars champs to the feature.

B main two (started): 1. H. Moore (1) 2. Middleton (2) 3. Cornell (8) / 4. Westbrook (4) 5. Bell (6) 6. Mallett (3) 7. Dancer (5) 8. Stewart (11) 9. McCarl (14) 10. Thomas
(10) 11. Stambaugh (7) 12. C. Gardner (16) 13. J. Gardner (9) 14. D. White (12) 15. Bowden (13) 16. Bauldwin (15)

Moore led this non-stop event early over Middleton and Mallett.  The lead trio stayed the same before Cornell worked his way up from eighth to work by Mallett on lap 11
for the final transfer.  There was some contact in turn one that resulted in Mallett finishing with a flat left front tire.

A main (started): 1. Swindell (2) 2. Crawley (1) 3. J. Johnson (7) 4. Z. Pringle (4) 5. Reutzel (5) 6. Ainsworth (3) 7. H. White (6) 8. Shaffer (19) 9. Price-Miller (9) 10.
Haudenschild (11) 11. Sides (14) 12. Bayston (15) 13. Moore (16) 14. Shouse (8) 15. Cornell (20) 16. Ball (10) 17. Middleton (18) 18. Hill (12) 19. Kemenah (17) 20.
Smith (13)

With the track in perfect conditions, Crawley led the 25-lapper early over Swindell and Z. Pringle.  Ball spun with a lap completed in what would prove to be the only
caution.  Crawley had dominated all night and looked strong out front.  Swindell was securely in second, but the battled was on in the middle stages for the third and final
lock-in position for Saturday night’s finale.  J. Johnson, Z. Pringle and Reutzel went at it, with J. Johnson winning out.  Swindell reeled in Crawley and got by to take the
point in traffic on lap 12.  Swindell proceeded as an explosion of sparks from his brakes hit on every lap in turns one and three.  J. Johnson was gaining speed and
passed Crawley with five laps to go.  His momentum carried him closer and closer to the leader.  On the last lap he dove under Swindell and a lapped car in turn one,
however, he spun, doing a complete 360.  Though he lost second to Crawley in the process, he joined the lead pair, all locked into Saturday’s finale.  All three have tasted
victory as a champion of the Short Track Nationals.  Shaffer bears watching on Friday, as he earned hard-charger honors, going from 19th to eighth.

Short Track Nationals Night #2

59 cars

Slicker conditions greeted competitors on Friday night.  The night was a bit cooler after the warmest night Thursday that I can remember in my years going to the STN.

Heat one (started): 1. Jonathan Cornell 28 (2) 2. Dylan Westbrook 47x (4) 3. Marshall Skinner 26 (5) 4. Jake Bubak 9x (8) 5. CJ Hulsey 77c (7) 6. Dale Wester 12w (6) 7.
Jamey Mooney 69 (1) 8. Dewayne White 10K (3)

10-lap heats saw passing points used.  The top 40 were placed in four Qualifiers with the rest heading to the C.  Cornell led Westbrook and Mooney on lap one.  Hulsey
spun with a lap down, bringing a yellow.  Bubak used the restart to move up to third.  Skinner battled back to grab the spot on lap seven.  Wester spun at that point and
restarted at the tail.  D. White exited with mechanical issues at that point.  Skinner held onto third at the checkers, as Bubak mounted a late challenge.

Heat two (started): 1. Aaron Reutzel 87 (2) 2. Tim Shaffer 49x (4) 3. Jason Sides 7s (7) 4. Cody Gardner 88R (5) 5. Rick Pringle 38 (1) 6. Harli White 17w (6) 7. Joey
Schmidt 1s (3) DNS – Matthew Bauldwin 43

Bauldwin had issues in hot laps and didn’t make the call.  Schmidt spun before a lap could be completed.  Reutzel led the distance.  R. Pringle was riding second, but at
the halfway point, both Shaffer and Sides shot by him into second and third in probably the stoutest of the eight heats.  C. Gardner claimed fourth on the last lap.

Heat three (started): 1. Terry McCarl 24 (6) 2. Dakota Gaines D6 (3) 3. Brian Bell 23B (8) 4. Jamie Ball 5J (2) 5. Jordan Thomas 79 (1) 6. Brandon Hinkle 21B (4) 7.
Ronny Howard 44 (7) 8. Alex Hill 77x (5)

Thomas led Gaines and Ball early.  Contact with Bell flattened Hill’s right rear tire with four laps down.  Thomas led Gaines, Ball, McCarl and B. Hinkle back to green.
Thomas went over the top of turn two on the restart.  With seven laps down, B. Hinkle got over the berm as well.  Gaines inherited the lead over Ball and McCarl.  McCarl
quickly moved into second, and after stalking Gaines, passed him for the lead on the last lap.  Bell finished a good run from eighth by passing Ball for third on the last
circuit as well.

Heat four (started): 1. AG Rains 3 (4) 2. Trey Starks 23 (6) 3. Howard Moore 40 (3) 4. Jason Keith 10c (7) 5. Shawn Dancer 49 (2) 6. Charlie Louden X (1) 7. Tommy
Snellgrove 4 (5)

Louden led lap one over Dancer and Rains.  Rains picked off Dancer on lap two and Louden for the lead on lap three.  Starks was on the move as well, snagging third
from Dancer on lap four, and second from Louden on lap five.  Moore also got by Louden to move into third on lap six.

Heat five (started): 1. Tony Bruce Jr. 86 (2) 2. Chad Kemenah 10H (4) 3. Coleman Gulick 14 (1) 4. Mark Smith M1 (5) 5. Derek Hagar 9JR (7) 6. Andy Shouse 27 (3) 7.
Kevin Hinkle 21 (6)

Bruce led throughout and pulled away in the closing stages.  Gulick ran a strong race, but was overtaken by Kemenah on the fourth lap.

Heat six (started): 1. Claud Estes III 74E (1) 2. Max Stambaugh 5m (2) 3. Spencer Bayston 39 (3) 4. Jeremy Middleton 15J (4) 5. Brad Bowden 59 (5) 6. Brandon Long 2K
(7) 7. Brandon Stevenson 29 (6)

Estes led from flag to flag.  The race was for second.  Stambaugh, who ran low and Bayston who ran the middle groove exchanged the spot four times before Stambaugh
captured it on the white flag lap.

Heat seven (started): 1. Sheldon Haudenschild 31B (1) 2. Jordon Mallett 14m (2) 3. Parker Price-Miller 2 (4) 4. Joe B. Miller 51B (7) 5. TJ Michael 8m (6) 6. Dustin Homan
10 (5) 7. Johnny Gardner 31G (3)

S. Haudenschild led the distance and pulled away at the finish.  Price-Miller and J.B. Miller had a good race for third.  They traded the spot on laps three and four and
again on the final circuit when PPM took control.

Heat eight (started): 1. Zach Pringle 8z (7) 2. Robbie Standridge 17* (2) 3. Shane Stewart 88s (6) 4. Kevin Ramey 91 (3) 5. Andy McElhannon 42 (5) 6. Jeff Masson 15*
(4) 7. Joseph Miller 30 (1)

Standridge led J. Miller and Ramey early on.  Stewart was riding the cushion and took third form ramey on lap three.  His run continued into second and by J. Miller on lap
four.  Z. Pringle brought the crowd to its feet after starting scratch and climbing to third by lap five.  A yellow with seven laps in the books tightened things with Standridge
leading Stewart, Z. Pringle, Ramey and J. Miller.  J. Miller spun after the restart, with McElhannon also involved.  Z. Pringle made the last three laps count, getting under
Stewart for second and Standridge for the win on the last lap.  The moves were good enough to give him high point honors heading into the Qualifiers.

Qualifier one (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Stewart (3*) 2. Bruce (4*) 3. Bell (5*) 4. Gulick (8*) 5. Z. Pringle (6*) 6. Stambaugh (1) 7. Moore (7) 8. McElhannon (10) 9.
Ramey (9) 10. Gaines (2)

10-lap Qualifiers took the top 14 in combined Heat/Qualifier points to the feature.  Stambaugh led Gaines and Stewart at the outset.  Gaines spun in turn one and Gulick
got airborne over the turn two berm to avoid him.  Incredibly, he was able to restart at the tail.  Stewart inherited second on the caution and disposed of Stambaugh on lap
three for the lead and eventually the win.  Gaines spun a second time with four laps down, ending his night.  Stewart led Stambaugh, Bruce, Bell and Z. Pringle back to
green.  Two laps later, Bruce got by Stambaugh for second.  Bell followed into third, as did Gulick, who came back from the tail to finish fourth.

Qualifier two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Skinner (2*) 2. Mallett (1*) 3. McCarl (6*) 4. Westbrook (4) 5. Sides (5) 6. Bayston (7) 7. Estes (3) 8. Michael (9) 9. Long
(10) 10. Hulsey (8)

Mallett led early over Skinner and McCarl.  Skinner grabbed the lead on the high side, as he and Mallett, who ran low, waged a good battle all race long.

Qualifier three (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Shaffer (4*) 2. Standridge (1*) 3. Hagar (8*) 4. Keith (2) 5. Cornell (5) 6. Rains (6) 7. C. Gardner (7) 8. S. Haudenschild
(3) 9. Ball (9) 10. Dancer (10)

Keith led Standridge and Shaffer in a three-way battle for the lead early.  S. Haudenschild briefly took third on lap two, before Shaffer reclaimed it a circuit later.  Shaffer’s
run continued by Standridge and Keith to take the lead on lap four.  S. Haudenschild backed his car over the turn three berm with four laps to go.  Shaffer held the lead
for the win on the restart, while Hagar took third from Keith on lap eight.

Qualifier four (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Price-Miller (1*) 2. Kemenah (4*) 3. M. Smith (7*) 4. J.B. Miller (2) 5. Bubak (3) 6. Starks (6) 7. Reutzel (5) 8. Middleton (8)
9. Bowden (9) DNS – R. Pringle

Price-Miller led J.B. Miller and Kemenah early.  Bowden exited immediately when his top wing collapsed.  Kemenah shot by J. B. Miller for second lan lap five, whilte M.
Smith finished a good run from row four, by taking third with two to go.

C main one (started): 1. Thomas (1) 2. Shouse (2) 3. Mooney (6) / 4. Schmidt (7) 5. Bauldwin (8) 6. B. Hinkle (3) 7. Louden (5) 8. Stevenson (4) 9. Hill (9) DNS – H. White

12-lap C’s took the top three to the back of the B’s.  The track was tilled on the extreme top and bottom, but not in the middle where it would eventually yield rubber.
Thomas led Shouse on lap one, before contact from Bell sent Stevenson into a broadside of Louden.  Both of those cars were done.  Hill exited as well.  Thomas led
Shouse, B. Hinkle, Mooney and Schmidt back to green.  Mooney came to a stop on lap three to bring another caution.  Bauldwin shot by B. Hinkle for third on the restart.
The last yellow of the race came when Mooney took out Bauldwin with his right rear for the last transfer.  Bauldwin was able to salvage fifth, but was unhappy with Mooney.

C main two (started): 1. Snellgrove (6) 2. Howard (4) 3. Wester (1) / 4. J. Gardner (7) 5. D. White (9) 6. K. Hinkle (5) 7. J. Miller (8) 8. Masson (3) DQ – Homan (tech,
crossed 1st)

Masson spun in turn four before a lap could get in.  Homan led Wester and Howard early.  Masson spun a second time, ending his night with three laps to go.  Homan led
Wester, Howard and D. White back to green.  Snellgrove was the mover on the restart, hitting the high line to go from sixth to second.  Howard maintained third ahead of
Wester.  That all changed when Homan was DQed for not passing postrace tech.  Snellgrove inherited the win and Wester the final transfer.

B main one (started): 1. Sides (2) 2. Westbrook (1) 3. Cornell (3) / 4. Reutzel (5) 5. J. B. Miller (3) 6. Moore (7) 7. Michael (9) 8. C. Gardner (8) 9. Ball (11) 10. Shouse
(15) 11. Dancer (13) 12. Estes (6) 13. Thomas (14) 14. Gaines (10) 15. Mooney (16) 16. Hulsey (12)

12-lap B’s took the top three to the back of the A.  Westbrook led Sides and Cornell early.  Not much changed up front, but Sides did get a run on Westbrook on lap
seven and went on to win.

B main two (started): 1. Starks (2) 2. Keith (3) 3. Bayston (5) / 4. S. Haudenschild (7) 5. Rains (1) 6. McElhannon (8) 7. Bubak (4) 8. Stambaugh (6) 9. Ramey (10) 10.
Bowden (12) 11. Howard (11) 12. Snellgrove (14) 13. Long (9) 14. Wester (13) DNS – Middleton, R. Pringle

Starks led early over Rains and Keith.  On the second lap, Keith was able to sneak by Rains for second.  Bayston would battle hard with Rains for several laps before
grabbing the last transfer spot with four to go.  Starks ran and hid, while S. Haudenschild made a late play for third that fell short.

A main (started): 1. Shaffer (2) 2. Bell (5) 3. McCarl (1) 4. Bruce (4) 5. Hagar (9) 6. Stewart (3) 7. M. Smith (11) 8. Z. Pringle (6) 9. Kemenah (7) 10. Price-Miller (10) 11.
Standridge (13) 12. Sides (15) 13. Starks (16) 14. Skinner (8) 15. Gulick (14) 16. Cornell (19) 17. Keith (18) 18. Westbrook (17) 19. Bayston (20) 20. Mallett (12)

Shaffer jumped to the lead early in the 25-lapper with McCarl and Bell, up from fifth, in tow.  Bell would surge by McCarl for second on the second lap and the lead trio
would never change.  Bruce settled into fourth, while Hagar was fifth by lap four.  Shaffer entered lapped traffic on lap ten, about when the rubber hit the middle of the
track surface.  From there, there wasn’t much movement the rest of the way.  Shaffer, Bell and McCarl joined Sammy Swindell, Tim Crawley and Jason Johnson as drivers
locked into Saturday’s $15,000 to win finale.

Shaffer Shines in Friday STN Prelim

Lonnie Wheatley, LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (November 4, 2016) – Tim Shaffer snapped a victory drought dating back more than a year by wiring the field in Friday night’s 25-
lap preliminary feature at the 29th Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires atop the ¼-mile I-30 Speedway clay oval.

“The Steel City Outlaw” gunned into the lead at the outset and led all the way in the non-stop affair aboard the DR Racing/Rudzik Excavating No. 49x for his second
career STN preliminary feature win.

While the past Knoxville Nationals champion from Aliquippa, PA, locked into his seventh career Short Track Nationals finale, Brian Bell and Terry McCarl both picked up
starting berths in Saturday night’s $15,000-to-win finale as well by virtue of finishing second and third, respectively.  It will be Bell’s first STN finale while McCarl is now two-
for-two in making the cut at the event.

The trio joined Thursday’s top three finishers of Sammy Swindell, Tim Crawley and Jason Johnson as the half dozen drivers among the 64-car field locked into Saturday’s
finale.  The remaining 58 will battle it out for the remaining 14 starting positions in the $2,000-to-start finale.

While McCarl led the field to the green flag in Friday’s main event, Shaffer pounced into the early lead at the drop of the green flag with fifth-starter Bell needing just two
laps to move the FSR Racing Products No. 23 into second.

Shaffer reached traffic within nine laps and spent the remainder of the race negotiating lapped cars as Memphis’ Bell tried to chase him down.

Bell closed in on several occasions, only to have Shaffer deny his advances as he raced to his first win since an All Star Circuit of Champions triumph at Ohio’s Fremont
Speedway on September 18 of 2015.

Runner-up honors were sufficient for Bell, as he held off a last-lap advance from Altoona, Iowa’s McCarl in the Country Builders No. 24.

Bouncing back from a Thursday night flip in similar fashion to Bell, two-time STN champion Tony Bruce, Jr., raced to a fourth-place finish with Derek Hagar picking up four
positions in the early going to round out the top five.

Shane Stewart was sixth with Pennsylvania’s Mark Smith, local shoe Zach Pringle, Ohio’s Chad Kemenah and Indiana’s Parker Price-Miller completing the top ten.

Jonathan Cornell, Aaron Reutzel, McCarl, A.G. Rains, Bruce, Jr., Claud Estes, Sheldon Haudenschild and Zach Pringle captured heat race wins among Friday’s field of 59
with Stewart, Marshall Skinner, Shaffer and Parker Price-Miller winning the qualifiers.

Jordan Thomas and Tommy Snellgrove scored “C” Main wins with Jason Sides and Trey Starks winning the “B” Mains.

The 29th Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tries wraps up with Saturday night’ STN championship slate of events that goes green at 8:00
p.m.

The Saturday night slate will include six STN Saturday Night Showdowns that award double finishing/passing points added to preliminary night point totals.  The top eight
in total points will advance to positions seven through 14 of the main event, with the next 24 going to two “B” Mains and the balance going to three “C” Mains.  The top
three finishers will advance in “C” and “B” Main action.

The six locked in drivers will set the lineup of the front three rows in the Pack’s Dash for Cash, while the first three non-transfers from each “C” Main will mix it up in the
Inaugural “Red Shirt Dash” in Honor of Lanny Edwards.

I-30 Speedway
Little Rock, AR

Short Track Nationals

63 cars

Showdown one (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Dylan Westbrook 47x (2) 2. Parker Price-Miller 2 (4*) 3. Jordon Mallett 14m (5) 4. Jordan Thomas 79 (3) 5. Sheldon
Haudenschild 31B (9) 6. Jonathan Cornell 28 (8) 7. Charlie Louden X (10) 8. Ernie Ainsworth 91A (6) 9. Matthew Bauldwin 43 (7) 10. Ronny Howard 44 (1)

10-lap Showdowns counted for double passing points.  That total was added to a driver’s best qualifying night points.  The top eight drivers in combined points joined the
six already locked into the finale.  Westbrook led Howard and Mallett early in the going.  By lap five, Haudenschild had reached fifth.  Price-Miller passed Thomas for third
on lap six.  With seven laps in, Ainsworth, who had moved into the top three, spun and collected Howard.  The restart saw Westbrook lead Mallett, Price-Miller, Thomas
and S. Haudenschild back to green.  Price-Miller slid by Mallett for second, and secure enough points to make the finale.

Showdown two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Coleman Gulick 14 (4) 2. TJ Michael 8m (2) 3. Derek Hagar 9JR (10*) 4. Howard Moore 40 (7) 5. Tony Bruce Jr. 86 (8*)
6. Claud Estes III 74E (5) 7. Rick Pringle 38 (9) 8. Zach Pringle 8z (3) 9. CJ Hulsey 77c (6) 10. Robbie Standridge 17* (1)

It looked like Standridge may not start when smoke billowed from his machine before this one started.  He would make the call on the pole, however.  Gulick was the class
of this field, taking the lead from fourth on the first lap, ahead of Michael and Standridge.  Hulsey got over the berm with a lap complete, bringing the caution.  Gulick led
Michael, Standridge, Z. Pringle and Estes back to green.  Hagar bounced into the top five at tha point.  At the halfway mark, Standridge’s motor detonated and he rolled to
a stop.  Gulick led Michael, Z. Pringle, Hagar and Estes at that point.  The order remained the same when Hulsey went up in smoke with three to go.  After the restart, Z.
Pringle and Michael came together in a racing deal that sidelined Pringle.  Gulick pulled away easily the last three laps, while Hagar was the mover of the race.

Showdown three (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Mark Smith M1 (8*) 2. Chad Kemenah 10H (10*) 3. AG Rains 3 (9) 4. Jake Bubak 9x (2) 5. Andy McElhannon 42 (4) 6.
Alex Hill 77x (1) 7. Dakota Gaines D6 (3) 8. Joseph Miller 30 (7) 9. Jamie Ball 5J (5) 10. Jason Keith 10c (6)

Keith hit a rut and rolled in turn three on the first lap.  He was uninjured.  Bubak led early over Hill and M. Smith from row four.  Smith worked his way under Hill on lap two
for second.  Kemenah charged from the tail to take third on lap five.  Smith took the lead from Bubak on lap six.  The lead pair came upon a spun Gaines.  Bubak was
collected and did all but get upside down after contact.  Smith led Kemenah, Hill, Ball and McElhannon back to green.  A Ball spin with two to go was the last slowdown.
Rains used that restart to go from fifth to third.  Bubak recovered from his mishap to finish fourth.

Showdown four (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Aaron Reutzel 87 (2*) 2. Spencer Bayston 39 (6) 3. Max Stambaugh 5m (7) 4. Brandon Hinkle 21B (1) 5. Johnny
Gardner 31G (9) 6. Kevin Hinkle 21 (4) 7. Jamey Mooney 69 (5) 8. Cody Gardner 88R (8) 9. Tommy Snellgrove 4 (3)

Reutzel led B. Hinkle, Bayston, and C. Gardner, up from row four early on.  On lap three, C. Gardner stopped while running fourth.  Reutzel led Bayston, B. Hinkle,
Stambaugh and J. Garnder back to green.  Stambaugh moved into third at that point, but two laps later, K. Hinkle got over the turn one berm to bring another yellow.
Reutzel cruised to the finish from there.

Showdown five (started): 1. Jason Sides 7s (1) 2. Marshall Skinner 26 (6*) 3. Trey Starks 23 (7) 4. Joe B. Miller 51B (2) 5. Kevin Ramey 91 (4) 6. Andy Shouse 27 (9) 7.
Joey Schmidt 1s (8) 8. Jeff Masson 15* (3) 9. Brandon Stevenson 29 (5)

Sides led the distance.  Skinner took second from J. B. Miller on lap two, and Starks took third on lap six.

Showdown six (started): 1. Shane Stewart 88s (2*) 2. Brandon Long 2K (3) 3. Dustin Homan 10 (1) 4. Brad Bowden 59 (4) 5. Harli White 17w (6) 6. Shawn Dancer 49 (5)
7. Jeremy Middleton 15J (8) 8. Dale Wester 12w (7) 9. Dewayne White 10K (9)

Stewart dominated, winning by over a half lap in a non-stop race.  Long came on late, grabbing third from Bowden on lap seven and second from Homan on the last lap.

C main one (started): 1. J. Gardner (1) 2. McElhannon (3) 3. Dancer (2) 4. Bowden (4) / 5. Estes (5) 6. B. Hinkle (6) 7. Homan (7) 8. Wester (9) 9. Stevenson (13) 10.
Bauldwin (10) 11. Howard (12) 12. K. Hinkle (8) 13. Snellgrove (11)

10-lap C mains took the top four to the tail of the B mains.  This one was led by J. Gardner, Dancer, McElhannon and Bowden early.  K. Hinkle spun with four down to
bring a caution.  The only change in the top four came with three to go when McElhannon passed Dancer for second.

C main two (started): 1. Ramey (1) 2. Thomas (3) 3. Keith (2) 4. Gaines (5) / 5. Schmidt (4) 6. D. White (6) 7. J. Miller (8) 8. Masson (9) 9. Mooney (7) DNS – Standridge,
C. Gardner, Hulsey

This one went non-stop with Ramey out front.  Keith settled into second but was over taken on lap four by Thomas.  Gaines gained the final transfer from Schmidt on lap
three.

Dash (started): 1. Tim Crawley 88 (2) 2. Tim Shaffer 49x (1) 3. Sammy Swindell 3s (5) 4. Jason Johnson 41 (3) 5. Terry McCarl 24 (4) 6. Brian Bell 23B (6)

Crawley led the 6-lap distance for drivers locked into the finale.  Swindell picked off third from J. Johnson on the first lap.  Shaffer stayed with the leader the entire way but
fell short.

Red Shirt Dash (started): 1. Estes (2) 2. Homan (3) 3. Schmidt (1) 4. D. White (4) 5. J. Miller (6) 6. B. Hinkle (5)

This 6-lap Dash was held in honor of Lanny Edwards and featured the top six non-qualifiers in the C main.  Estes earned $500 for leading the distance, while everyone
else claimed $100.  Homan took second from Schmidt at the halfway point.

B main one (started): 1. Gulick (1) 2. Sides (2) 3. Haudenschild (3) / 4. H. White (4) 5. Moore (5) 6. Z. Pringle (7) 7. Stambaugh (8) 8. Shouse (6) 9. McElhannon (14) 10.
J. B. Miller (9) 11. Bubak (11) 12. Louden (10) 13. Dancer (15) 14. Bowden (16) 15. Ball (12) 16. J. Gardner (13)

12-lap B’s transferred the top three to the back of the feature.  Gulick, Sides and Haudenschild stayed in their order for the distance, and separated themselves
noticeably from the rest of the pack.

B main two (started): 1. Starks (2) 2. Bayston (1) 3. Ainsworth (6) / 4. Westbrook (3) 5. Rains (3) 6. Cornell (7) 7. Mallett (5) 8. Middleton (8) 9. Keith (15) 10. Michael (11)
11. Ramey (13) 12. Long (9) 13. Hill (10) 14. R. Pringle (12) 15. Thomas (14) 16. Gaines (16)

Starks led Bayston, Ainsworth and Rains in the early going.  The red would fly one lap in when Thomas spun in turn two and collected Gaines, who could not avoid him
and turned over.  He was unhurt.  The lead quartet remained the same until R. Pringle spun late.  Nothing changed amongst the lead three, though Westbrook made a
late run on the cushion.  It was close, but no cigar.

A main (started): 1. Swindell (3) 2. Shaffer (2) 3. J. Johnson (4) 4. Crawley (1) 5. Bell (6) 6. Smith (8) 7. Kemenah (7) 8. Hagar (9) 9. Starks (16) 10. Bayston (18) 11.
Stewart (10) 12. Bruce (13) 13. Gulick (15) 14. Price-Miller (14) 15. Haudenschild (19) 16. Reutzel (11) 17. McCarl (5) 18. Sides (17) 19. Skinner (12) 20. Ainsworth (20)
21. Rains (21, prov.)

Rains received a track provisional as track champ.  Shaffer led early in the 40-lapper over Crawley and J. Johnson.  Gulick shot over the turn three berm one lap in to
bring caution.  Swindell shot by Johnson for third on the restart.  The next time around, he would best Crawley for second.  Skinner was sideways in turn three with five
laps down to bring another yellow.  Shaffer led Swindell, Crawley, Johnson and Bell at that point.  The order remained the same when Reutzel got over the top of turn
three bringing another slowdown.  Around lap 13, Sammy took the lead from Shaffer and pulled away slowly.  The groove around the bottom was too good to leave by now
and Bell was trying to hold off McCarl for fifth.  He would drive into the #24, breaking McCarl’s front-end and bringing the final caution with about 10 to go.  Swindell pulled
away from there to win his fourth STN title.  This one was worth $15,000 plus lap money.  Bayston, who drove for Kevin Swindell was the hard-charger.

Sammy is Still Winning – Takes His Fourth STN Title

Lonnie Wheatley, LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (November 5, 2016) – Sammy Swindell just keeps on winning.  And he did it to the tune of more than $15,000 by topping Saturday
night’s 29th Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires 40-lap finale in front of a packed house at I-30 Speedway.

With the triumph aboard the Rains Motorsports No. 3s, the Germantown, TN, racer became just the second driver in event history to park it in victory lane on four
occasions, matching Gary Wright in the win column.

This time around, Swindell slipped by early leader Tim Shaffer on the 14th circuit and then eased away in the closing circuits to secure his third STN victory of this decade
(2011 and 2013) atop the ¼-mile clay oval after earning his first one in the infancy of the event in 1990.

“It feels great to win here again,” Swindell said in victory lane.  “I can’t thank these guys enough, they work their butts off on this car.”

Gridding the feature field third, Swindell worked past Pack’s Pole Dash winner Tim Crawley in the opening handful of laps as the initial six circuits were interrupted by three
minor cautions.

Getting an extended green flag run in progress with a lap seven restart, Swindell began moving in to pressure Shaffer for the point on the 12th round and then slipped
underneath to take command two laps later.

Shaffer tried to battle back while Jason Johnson entered the lead mix on the high side.  Just as the duo of Shaffer and Johnson appeared poised to challenge at the
midway point, Swindell picked his way through traffic to reestablish some breathing room.

One final caution flew with a dozen laps remaining after Terry McCarl slid to a stop at the bottom of turn one with race-ending front end woes.  Improving as the race
progressed, Swindell gradually raced away to pick up the win.  With lap money, Dash money and preliminary winnings factored in, Swindell banked $16,325 over the
course of the weekend.

Pennsylvania’s Shaffer chased all the way, settling for runner-up honors in the DR Racing/Rudzik Excavating No. 49x with Louisiana native Johnson rounding out the
podium in the Priority Aviation No. 41.

The third past STN champion among the top four along with Swindell and Johnson, Tim Crawley’s fourth-place showing was his best STN since a runner-up outing in 2000.

Making his first STN championship feature start in comparison to Crawley’s event-best 19 starts, Memphis’ Brian Bell rounded out the top five.

One of five event rookies to make Saturday night’s feature cut, Pennsylvania’s Mark Smith was the top-finishing first-timer in sixth while newly-crowned All Star champ
Chad Kemenah was seventh.

Derek Hagar posted his first STN top-ten in eighth with event rookies Trey Starks and Spencer Bayston completing the top ten.  Washington’s Starks rallied from 16th to
ninth while Bayston’s charge from 18th in the Kevin Swindell-owned No. 39 was good enough for Hard Charger honors.

Other event rookies to race into the feature included Coleman Gulick and Sheldon Haudenschild.

The evening kicked off with Canadian Dylan Westbrook, New York’s Gulick, Smith, Aaron Reutzel, Jason Sides and Shane Stewart winning the STN Showdowns.

Johnny Gardner and Kevin Ramey won “C” Mains while Gulick and Starks topped “B” Mains.

Crawley earned an extra $500 by topping the Pack’s Dash for Cash while, Godley, TX, racer Claud Estes picked up $500 as well by winning the Inaugural “Red Shirt
Dash” in Honor Lanny Edwards portion of the night.

Sixty-four different drivers from 16 different states as well as Canada competed in the 29th edition of the COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires
as more than $110,000 was doled out over the course of the weekend.
